The latest data from the National Statistical Institute show that Bulgarians have reduced their consumption of bread and increased their consumption of fish, meat and fruit.
NSI data show that in 2013 the Bulgarian increased alcohol consumption to 27.1 liters per person compared to 2012, when the average consumption was 26.3 liters.
Over the past year, the consumption of bread and pasta has decreased to 97.8 kilograms per person, which is a decrease of an average of 3.3 kilograms, as their consumption in 2012 was an average of 101.1 kilograms.
There is also a decrease in the consumption of yogurt and potatoes. In 2013, Bulgarians bought an average of 28.1 kilograms of milk, while in 2012 this amount was 29 kilograms.
In the case of potatoes, the reduced consumption is also insignificant. For the last year the purchased potatoes are 30.8 kilograms, and in 2012 they were 31.2 kilograms.
On the other hand, the consumption of meat, fish, fruits and dairy products has increased.
Meat consumption increased from 32 kilograms in one year to 32.2 kilograms on average per person per calendar year. Consumption of local works also rose slightly - from 14.3 kilograms to 14.4 kilograms.
In the last year, Bulgarians have bought 0.5 liters more fresh milk and its consumption has reached 20.1 liters.
The biggest change in food is observed in fruits and soft drinks. In the past year, every Bulgarian consumed an average of 4.3 kilograms more fruit and 3.9 liters more soft drinks.
We also have increased consumption of vegetables, as for the last year their consumption has increased to 73.1 kilograms, while in 2012 it was 70.4 kilograms.
According to statistics, each Bulgarian household has spent an average of BGN 1,480 on food, with the total expenditure declining compared to 2012 consumption data.
The data are obtained from the quarterly monitoring of household budgets.

A NSI survey showed that in the last 15 years Bulgarians have reduced their consumption of bread, but the consumption of alcoholic beverages has increased. From 1999 to 2014, one Bulgarian drank an average of 19.6 liters of alcohol per year, and only last year a person in our country drank an average of 27 liters of alcohol in 12 months.
