Freedom has different dimensions. It is universal for all and strictly individual in the ways people understand it. And while for some freedom is expressed in free movement and free expression of opinion, for others even some chicken wings can symbolize the rejection of shackles.

The Palestinians, who live in the Israeli-occupied territories of Gaza, have long found a way to reject the isolation to which they are subjected. Despite the many checkpoints and armed guards, people's quest for freedom will always find a way to avoid restrictions.

For the people of Gaza, the road to freedom and dreamy but forbidden pleasures passes through hundreds of underground tunnels. From there, enterprising smugglers deliver everything for which there is a market. Black market goods are the most diverse and range from building materials, weapons, smartphones to luxury cars and brides.

More popular than the weapons, however, are KFC's crunchy chicken wings and appetizing Big Mac sandwiches. Despite the relatively high price of these temptations, there is no shortage of people willing to eat Western "fast food".

From the time of the order to the delivery of the dream chicken wings takes at least 4 hours, which is far from meeting the definition of "fast breakfast". The reason for the slow delivery is that the closest restaurants to Palestine from the chains of world-famous manufacturers are located in El Arish, Egypt.

That's where enterprising traders buy a dozen crispy chicken bites for $ 12, which they sell a few hours later, already chilled for as much as $ 27.

The high cost of these delicacies, which are banned in Palestine, is associated with difficulties in delivering them. Unbelievable, but a fact - the delivery of a portion of fried wings involves a lot of phone calls, bank transfers and difficult coordination with the Hamas government. A dollar for a bribe here, a dollar for a bribe there - and for the merchant there are only 4-5 dollars left.

The truth is that neither the trader does it because he makes a big profit from these deals. Nor do Palestinians order them because they are such big fans of junk food. Simply, what weighs the most on the inhabitants of the occupied territories is the global isolation in which they find themselves.

In the words of psychology professor Fadel Abe Heen: "They dream of everything beyond the borders - just as a prisoner dreams of freedom beyond bars."

So, if you've ever wondered where the tastiest and most expensive chicken wings in the world are, you already know the answer - in the Gaza Strip. There, "fast food" has a taste of freedom.
