MEPs in France have passed a law banning the sale of sugary drinks and synthetic colors. The measure was taken as part of a campaign to fight obesity and diabetes.

The National Assembly is adamant that health should be at the forefront of the country's bills and will therefore restrict the free sale of beverages so far.

The law will completely ban the sale of carbonated beverages in the country. From this Friday, January 27, they will stop offering them in restaurants, hotels and schools.

Even their free distribution will not be allowed. Fast food restaurants will also be forced by the French authorities to remove soda from their menus.

The solution will also affect those drinks with added flavors, fruit or vegetable concentrates and any synthetic colors. This includes energy drinks, Nova TV reports.

At the beginning of last year in France launched a campaign for healthy eating Yes to water. It aims to reduce the consumption of sugary drinks by children by 25%.

But it is necessary to limit soft and energy drinks and stimulate water sales.

Producers, on the other hand, are committed to reducing the sugar content of their products by 5% this year, but not completely eliminating it, because that would radically change the taste of their products.

But with this regulation, reducing the amount of sugar will not be enough to keep their products on the market. Those who do not comply with the new law face serious fines.

Along with the elimination of carbonated beverages in France, the number of television commercials encouraging young people to buy Pepsi or Coca-Cola will be reduced.
