An artificial burger meatball was created in a laboratory by a team of Dutch scientists. The synthetic product has been developed for 5 years and has already been eaten, informs the BBC.

The meatball was created by order of a company that wanted to develop meat that would be even tastier, but also cheaper for customers. The prototype of the meatball cost the guarantors 215 thousand British pounds.

The meat is made from stem cells grown from muscle and fat in a laboratory.

It took Post's scientists three months to grow about 20,000 individual muscle fibers. When the fibers were ready, the researchers made their own microincisions in them, and then pressed them.

Culinary experts who tried the artificial burger noted that it tasted quite pleasant, but the hamburger was too dry.

The head of the company Peter Verstrate shared that the team intends to fully develop the technology of synthetic meatballs.

I feel extremely excited about the prospect of this product being sold. I am confident that when it is offered as an alternative to meat, more and more people will buy it for ethical reasons - Verstrate told the British media.

The creators of the artificial meatball plan to put it on the market within 5 years. This will give a whole new impetus to the production and processing of meat worldwide.

If synthetic meat appears on store shelves, the prices of all meat products will drop dramatically, the company that produced synthetic meatballs.

Although now the price of a kilo for such a meatball is actually around 300,000 dollars, in the future its values may fall to 65 dollars, experts promise.

For now, however, scientists are still working to improve production technology.
