Recently, another of our national treasures has been tested. The results not only proved its supposed benefits, but also found others.

A Bulgarian-Swiss-German team subjected to a series of tests and research sheep's milk obtained from flocks at an altitude of over 1200 m. The results were announced by Professor Venelin Kafedzhiev, Scientific Secretary of the VFU Branch in Smolyan, at a conference in Zlatograd healthy eating and Balkan cuisine.

The conference is part of the annual celebration of Balkan cuisine Skariada, organized at the Ethnographic Complex in Zlatograd.

Professor Kafedzhiev explained that the research of the team clearly shows that it is in sheep's milk from mountainous areas that the content of linoleic acid is the highest. It is the increased content of linoleic acid that has a proven healing effect in tumor diseases. The results were presented both in Bulgaria and at a special scientific forum in Germany.

Over the years, every experience has proven that food products from the Rhodopes have both environmental and health effects on the human body. This is mainly due to the specific climate and natural conditions, scientists say.

Another emphasis in the scientific conference was placed on other animal and food products from the Rhodopes with a healing effect. These are blackcurrants, sheep's and cow's milk and bee products. In addition, foods such as porridge and barbecue were cited as examples of healthy cuisine delicacies in the mountains.

The annual celebration of the Balkan cuisine Skariada in Zlatograd is attended by chefs and tourists from Bulgaria as well as from Serbia, Greece and Turkey. Each master chef bets on his own variations of Balkan grill. The stalls enjoy rich decoration, music and dancing, each presenting the specifics of its region.

The idea for the fair is to turn Zlatograd into a center for gourmet tourism. With each passing year, the interest is growing, and delicious and healthy dishes - more and more loved.
