Tatul / Datura stramonium / is a shrubby plant of the potato family. It has a branched stem that has a purple to dark green color.

The leaves of the tattoo are wide, up to 20 cm in size. The fruits are green with an ovoid shape, as big as a walnut and have thorns. When the fruit ripens, it splits into four parts, each of which contains red seeds.

When cut, these seeds emit an unpleasant odor. Tatul blooms in May-September. It is distributed throughout the country up to 1000 meters above sea level. It is found in America, in the wild.

The tattoo is one of the most beautiful plants for landscaping terraces and balconies. Its bent, in some cases hanging flowers have the shape of a funnel, tube or trumpet and can reach up to 50 cm in length, and in the evening they emit an intoxicating aroma.

Herbaceous forms of tattoo propagated by seeds. They are sown in February, dipped several times. They bloom in a sunny bed or a large pot. Perennial forms of tattoo are propagated by cuttings from spring to autumn.

The whole plant, but mostly the seeds contain tropane alkaloids atropine, scopolamine, hyoscyamine. The composition of the plant also includes coumarins, phenolic acids. Tatul contains alkaloids such as tannin, kerotin, daturin. They are mainly found in flowers and seeds.

The plant grows in abandoned places and ruins, occurs as a weed in settlements. You can find it up to 1000 meters above sea level. Tatula seeds and roots are used, which are harvested in the fall, dried and stored in dry and ventilated rooms. The tattoo can also be purchased from specialized herbal stores.

The application of tattoo is relatively limited due to its highly toxic effects. Tatul has analgesic and antispasmodic effects due to phenolic acids, coumarins and tropan alkaloids. The tattoo is used in the presence of spastic cough, migraine and in rare cases in bronchial asthma.

Internal use - 1 tsp. finely chopped tatul leaves are poured with 400 ml of boiling water. Soak for 1 hour. The resulting decoction is drunk 3 times a day, 1 tbsp. before meals.

In tatul poisoning, dry mouth and difficulty swallowing, dilation of the pupils, rapid heartbeat, hallucinations, incoherent speech, agitation, rapid breathing, diarrhea are observed. When giving first aid, the victim is given a mixture of activated charcoal, strong tea and English tea. Admission to hospital is mandatory.
