The director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Prof. Todor Kantardjiev, called on Bulgarians to emphasize pickles and sauerkraut on national television to fight the flu during the season.

According to the professor, the flu is a dangerous disease, but there is no room for fear. In general, there is a tendency for fewer people to suffer from viral diseases compared to the same period last year.

However, he recommended refraining from going to work at the first symptoms of the flu, as well as using antibacterial wipes and face masks for protection. Vitamin D, which strengthens the immune system, is also a helper against flu diseases.

It turns out that the traditional Bulgarian "winter" salads are an extremely suitable way to replenish the body with vitamins. It has been found that naturally fermented cabbage provides the human body with more vitamins A, C and K than raw.

Another advantage of this product is that it is low in calories, while creating a feeling of satiety. Lactic acid, a natural preservative, stimulates the production of beneficial bacteria and oxidizes the intestinal microflora.

Lactic acid bacteria generally have the ability to strengthen the immune system. Some studies even claim that pickles protect against cancer because they counteract intestinal enzymes from becoming carcinogenic.

An important detail is that sauerkraut contains several probiotics. That is why cabbage and cabbage juice are suitable for those suffering from ulcers and gastritis, as well as for those with a hangover.

The yeast formed during the fermentation of pickles and pickles reduces the levels of sugars and starch, which makes the absorption of nutrients by the body easier.

In addition, sauerkraut is a good source of vitamin B12, necessary for the smooth functioning of the nervous system.
