The European Commission has approved a pilot Bulgarian project against the double standard in food in Western and Eastern Europe. The project is worth 1.3m euros.
The aim is to support all consumer organizations that are struggling with the double standard in products on the market. Organizations will have the right to sue when they find a mismatch between a product of the same brand in the markets of Western and Eastern Europe.
The news was announced by MEP Emil Radel, who worked on the Bulgarian project against the double standard in food and beverages together with his colleague Andrey Novakov.
I am glad that the decision came from our side. Consumer organizations will be able to use the money for information campaigns, tests, cooperation on similar projects with neighboring countries.
We expect the data collected from the implementation of the projects to be used for the introduction of minimum standards in the EU, Novakov was quoted as saying by Nova TV.
The start of the project will be given in 2019, and funding under the legislative measure will begin this year.
Such projects will allow the harmonization of food and beverages in Western and Eastern Europe. In addition to food, studies have shown that there are differences in household goods and cosmetics.
