Experts predict a double rise in food prices as early as this fall, and the reason for this is the torrential rains, which are expected to continue in the summer.
The native meteorologists reported that such prolonged rains have not been measured in Bulgaria since the hydrometeorological measurements were made.
According to experts, these prolonged torrential rains will seriously threaten this year's harvest, and this will lead to a significant increase in the prices of basic foodstuffs such as fruits, vegetables, wheat and milk.
It is forecasted that as of this September all branch organizations in the native agriculture will request an increase in foodstuffs due to the poor quality of the harvest.
So far it is known that the prolonged torrents have ruined a large part of the grain production in the country, and it is believed that the flour produced this year will be extremely insufficient to meet the needs of the Bulgarian market.
According to the forecasts, this autumn the kilo of flour will reach 2 leva, and so far the price is between 1.20 and 1.40 leva per kilogram.
Bulgarian bakers, on the other hand, avoid making forecasts for the price of bread at the end of the year because they do not want to panic without seeing the final results of this summer's harvest.
The torrential rains also affected potatoes, with vegetables rotting in the ground in many parts of the country. It is assumed that the prices of potatoes at the end of the summer will reach BGN 1.50 per kilogram.
The price of watermelons is expected to be BGN 1 per kilogram, and of melons - BGN 2 per kilogram.
However, a serious rise in values is forecast for peppers and tomatoes. The native vegetable producers state that the tomatoes, which are traditionally very cheap at the end of the summer, will hit the pockets of the Bulgarians this year, and their kilogram will be sold between 2 and 3 levs.
An increase in the price of beans is also expected, which is said to reach at least BGN 5. It is possible that there will be an increase in the price of apples as well, as their price per kilogram reaches BGN 4.

This necessitated an increase in the wholesale price to $ 9,000 per ton. Domestic traders say that the prices of nuts remain stable for now, but since the bulk of cashews in Bulgaria are supplied by Vietnam, it is very likely that it will rise in price in the coming weeks.
