After several weeks of research on food products sold in our country and their equivalents in Western Europe, it has been proven that there is a double standard in food both in quality and price.

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency compared chocolate products, soft drinks, juices, local and dairy products, as well as baby food.

The tests revealed 7 significant differences - in juices, baby food, local products and dairy products. No difference was reported for the other 24 products.

But while in Germany I drink 100% fruit juice, in our country the same product contains 97% juice and 3 pulps. In baby foods, a difference in the content of rapeseed oil was found. In Germany it is 1.3%, and in our country - 0.9%. There is also a difference in protein in food.

For local products in those sold in our markets, a higher water content was registered. Dr. Lubomir Kulinski from the BFSA explained that apparently our meat was not left to dry well.

Funkfurters, sausages and salamis have been studied, and it has been proven that in Germany they eat cleaner meat than us.

However, the Food Agency says that the products where the label says 100% meat are true.

The biggest reported difference that the BFSA found was in German and Bulgarian cheese. In Germany, the cheese looks better, is tastier and has the aroma of milk, while ours is diluted with water.

A report is to be drawn up by the expert group that conducted the research, which will be presented to the Minister of Agriculture Rumen Porojanov. In September, the tests will be discussed at a high level in the European Parliament.
