Brandy without a license will entice us during this year's Christmas and New Year holidays, writes Standart. Suspicious spirits will not only be in stores, but also in restaurants.
In recent months, inspections have identified several cases of illegal distribution of brandy.
Some time ago, illegal brandy was found in the property of a restaurateur from the village of Korten in Novozagorsk. One-ton alcohol tanks were confiscated from the building, as well as 200 10-liter cans filled with ready-to-sell alcohol.
The investigating authorities suggested that the brandy was intended for the markets in Sliven, Stara and Nova Zagora.
In September, customs officers found a ton and a half of illegal brandy in the property of Kiril Rashkov, better known as Tsar Kiro.
Two tons of illegal alcohol were found in Haskovo, in a village near Varna and near Plovdiv. Due to the unpaid excise duty on the hidden brandy, the state treasury has lost millions of levs.
Representatives of wineries claim that only half of the alcohol sold in the country is subject to excise duty.
The rest of the alcohol is sold on the black market and instead of the excise money for it to enter the country and be distributed for maternity, pensions and social activities, they go into the pockets of the owners of illegal distilleries.
Doctors add that in addition to harming the state, illegal brandy is also very dangerous to consume, as it can cause severe poisoning.
The rag can also lead to a number of health problems such as ulcers, sore throats and blindness, medics warn.
In 2013, there were deaths after consuming unlicensed brandy and then experts were adamant - a mistake in making alcohol at home can be fatal.
The market is flooded with producers who illegally offer homemade brandy, which has not passed any inspection. Experts from various industries advise not to consume alcohol from such traders.
