Nearly 50 tons of meat were seized during an operation by the Interior Ministry and the National Revenue Agency. The two-day action was held on December 14th and 15th, when 43 sites in the country were inspected.
The inspections were carried out in connection with intra-Community acquisitions, imports, storage of chilled and frozen foodstuffs of animal origin and related documents and documents required by law.
During the inspections it was established that meat is sold in Bulgaria without the necessary documents for origin and with expired expiration date. The largest amount of undocumented meat was found in 3 warehouses. 1,302 kilograms of meat without certificates were found in one of them, 20,000 kilograms in the other, and 20,300 kilograms in the third.
Another 1,680 kilograms of fish and fish products, as well as 5,000 kilograms of frozen chickens were found without documents.
As a general result of the joint actions carried out, the experts from the competent authorities imposed a ban on over 48 782 kilograms of meat and meat products due to lack of identification for origin and suitability.
86 ascertainment protocols were drawn up on the cases and additional documents were requested from the managers of the inspected companies.
Earlier this month, during an operation by the Ministry of Interior in Kardzhali, 150 kilograms of beef were seized, which was transported without documents of origin.
The car was stopped for inspection yesterday in Kardzhali as part of a specialized operation. The driver of the car did not present documents for the origin of the goods to the police. The case was notified to the Regional Directorate of Food Safety for treatment.
In parallel with the NRA and SDVR, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency conducts a series of inspections to identify unregulated food products in our markets during the holiday period.
