Beans are the main cereal and legume crop in Bulgaria. It is a valuable food for mankind because it has a high nutritional value and excellent taste. These invaluable advantages have helped the beans to grow traditional Bulgarian culture and to be established in the traditional Bulgarian cuisine as a main dish.

But some of its features must be taken into account so as not to overdo it. Despite all the known benefits of beans, it is a indigestible food. This is due to the high content of cellulose in it and a slightly higher percentage of fat compared to other cereals such as lentils and peas.

Bean flour can be added to wheat flour up to 10% and used to make breads and pasta that have a higher protein content.

In our country it is mentioned for the first time growing beans in the historical documents from 1498-1513.
