Bulgaria will not receive back BGN 14 million given for organic farming. The European Union refuses to reimburse the money due to a number of violations.
EU funds from the programming period 2014-2020 will not be returned to our country. The problem, according to experts, is in the Rural Development Program. It was the most problematic in the old programming period. This time the focus is on organic farming.
The news was confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture. The money paid from the national budget this February will not be returned to us due to weaknesses in the control over the biosector.
The ministry will take urgent measures to change the position of the European Commission. They hope the money will be released by the end of the year.
According to the commission's report, the Ministry of Agriculture has not controlled whether organic products, which are sold at a higher price and for which producers receive higher EU subsidies, are actually produced according to environmental standards.
As a rule, this control should be carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and private companies, the so-called. certification bodies, but in practice it is missing.
There are doubts about the unregulated permission of the producer companies to sow their fields with non-organic seeds, which will then offer their products on the market as organic.
