An alarmingly low yields of plums are expected in the country this year. In many areas the harvest is either very low or damaged by adverse weather conditions. Only in Troyan, where eighty percent of the crop is used to produce alcohol, a promising harvest is expected.

Experts in the industry predict that there will be about six hundred kilograms of plums per decare, which is significantly more than in 2014.

There are about twenty days left until the harvest, and farmers hope that the weather will not spoil and hinder the harvest.

Unlike Troyan, however, in the districts of Gabrovo and Stara Zagora the forecasts are not reliable. Most of the plantations near the Stara Zagora region were destroyed due to the bad weather last year. Those of the fruit growers, who managed to save the trees in this area, do not hope for a satisfactory yield.

In the Gabrovo region, most producers place their hopes only on the Steinley variety, which is suitable for making brandy, NovinarBg writes. However, the Yo-Yo variety, which is characterized by crunchiness, juiciness and sweet-sour taste, does not have many fruits due to the unfavorable weather.

Plum plantations are also grown in the Plovdiv region. It turns out that seventy percent of the fruit there will go in the pot, and another thirty will be used to make jam or dried.

According to people in the industry, at the moment a kilo of plums is offered on the stock exchanges for BGN 0.70-0.80. They are of the opinion that this year's value of plums is lower than last year's price.

The producers reminded that in September the brandy lovers will be able to enjoy their favorite drink at the Plum Festival, which is traditionally held every year in Troyan. The Bulgarian Plum Festival boasts an 80-year history.

During the event, culinary competitions, competitions for plum-based cocktails and a competition for the most successful homemade plum brandy are held.

Every year, not only brandy lovers from all over the country, but also foreigners come to the fiery drink festival.
