The paste is a dough product that can be varied in shape and composition. For centuries, pasta has been known as a traditional dish in Italy, so there is nothing more natural than offering you spaghetti, pasta, cannelloni, tortellini or other similar dried dough products during a holiday in the Mediterranean country.

It turns out, however, that despite the traditions and love of Italians for pasta, recently the consumption of this specialty has decreased significantly, reports DPA.

A study shows that about ten years ago the amount of pasta eaten per capita was about 28 kilograms, while in 2013 it was 25.3 kilograms. It is obvious that there is a decline in the consumption of specialties of this kind and this fact can not go unnoticed.

The phenomenon is also commented on by Gabriele Ricardi, a professor of nutrition at the University of Naples. According to him, in recent years there has actually been a decrease in pasta consumption in Italy, but there is a logical explanation for this. More or less traditional dishes have been replaced by fast food variations.

Gradually, the intake of not only pasta, but also bread and rice decreases, Ricardi believes.

According to the specialist, changes are also observed in the consumption of meat products and vegetables. As much as Italy adheres to its traditions, local restaurants now offer not only typical dishes of this region. In general, the menu in restaurants is becoming more diverse and ready to please different taste preferences.

We can not fail to note the fact that many restaurants can now offer visitors vegetarian and vegan specialties, as well as food products that are produced in ecological conditions. And this is quite normal for a modern restaurant that has a lot of competition.

Due to the strong globalization, you can increasingly see foreign restaurants offering exotic cuisine such as Chinese restaurants. In addition, people's habits and their daily lives are changing. All this can not but affect the culinary preferences of modern Italian.
