Making a fondue is a lot of fun, as it involves both guests and hosts. The name "fondue" comes from the French verb fonder, which means "melt", is stated in the book "In the world of culinary art".
The fondue is actually a "melted dish". It was originally distributed in Switzerland, where locals gathered for a friendly meal from a common bowl - a deep ceramic dish or a copper pan in which they melted cheese on the fire. And so everyone dipped in a frying pan stuck on long forks bites of bread, which they carefully turned to roll on all sides with cheese.
Bria Savaren, author of the famous book "Physiology of Taste", tells of a bishop who around 1700, passing through Switzerland, had the opportunity to taste the fondue, which he thought of as a cream and therefore ate it with a spoon instead of a fork. His ignorance seemed very amusing to his diners.
Later, the fondue became famous in Germany, and today it is present on the table of many European countries. And as sometimes happens, something that was common in the past has become an attraction today.
Initially, fondue was made only with cheese. An unknown admirer of the dish came up with the idea to try meat. Nowadays, various products are already used, and there are even sweet fondues.
Depending on the products, the dishes for cooking are different, but in all cases the common dish, the hob with which the required temperature is maintained and the special "two-horned" forks with long wooden handles, which insulate the heat, are invariably present.
The cheese fondue is closest to the traditional dish. It is made from different types of cheese, some of which are of the type of Swiss Gruyere, Emmental. The dish is consumed by stacking cubes of white toast or fried bread on the fork, which are rolled in warm melted cheese.
Choosing a drink to eat is also important. In Switzerland, the fondue is served with tart white wine, cherries, black tea or coffee.
