July 22 is celebrated Mango Day. On this occasion, we share with you some benefits of the juicy natural gift.
Only a few decades ago, mango was considered one of the most exotic fruits, which were not even sold in Bulgarian markets and shops.
Today, this fruit, which is cultivated for the first time in India, can be found in many places and even the more ingenious Bulgarian hosts have already learned what and how to use it.
If you still haven't tried it, you have no idea what it tastes like, what it looks like and how to consume it, here's what it is important to know about the mango.
- The mango is grown mass in Southeast Asia, but is widespread throughout the world and, strange as it may sound, holds the top spot among the best-selling fruits;
- Mango grows on trees that reach a height of over 45 m. They have large leaves and a dense crown;
- Unlike most of our familiar fruit trees mango begins to form fruits in winter. Exceptions are trees grown in the Northern Hemisphere, where the fruits are picked in late summer;
- It is very difficult to determine what mango tastes like, but it is certainly one of the juiciest fruits you have ever tasted. Some liken its taste to something between a peach, apricot, or melon, and others like a rose or even a lemon;
- The fruits of the mango reach 400-450 g, but in stores and markets are sold much smaller specimens;
- In Bulgaria you can see with your own eyes how they grow mango trees only in botanical gardens and in ornamental greenhouses. Unfortunately, our climatic conditions do not allow its cultivation, although many experienced gardeners have already tried;
- The mango is very rich in beta carotene, iron, calcium, sodium, vitamins B and E and many other valuable substances. Most nutritionists recommend regular consumption of mango, no matter what form it is;
- The mango belongs to the Pistachio family, to which the pistachio belongs;
- It is interesting to mention that the curry known to us as a spice is also made using mango fruits, but only while they are unripe.
