According to historians, the first information about its existence dates back to 1172, and the first written document in which its name appears is from 1494. For researchers, there is no doubt that the homeland of whiskey is Ireland, but its fans over the centuries are adamant - Scotland is the country that makes it famous.

According to legend whiskey was brought by Irish monks who flocked to Scotland to spread the teachings of the gospel. It was then called "Uisge Beatha" (water of life) and was used as a cure for everything. It is from the word "Uisge" that the word "whiskey" probably comes from today, the researchers believe.

The distillation process has been known in the world since ancient times. According to existing data, mankind distilled alcohol 4000 years ago, and in the 12th century the production of alcohol was mastered in Europe.

The golden liquid, as they call it whiskey, is in fact a distillation of fermented mixture of cereals (rye, barley, wheat, corn, etc.), aged in wooden barrels, usually. In fact, in the very beginning, whiskey was drunk immediately after it was made, because it was believed that if it stood, it would spoil. As with many other great things, so here, the taste and aroma of the aged whiskey were discovered by accident.

Then an Irishman, Inius Coffee, patented a special cauldron with two tubes - a purifier and an analyzer, which speeds up the production process. The triumphant Coffey showed his invention in public, but the Irish denied it because it spoiled the taste of the drink.

Convinced of his discovery, Coffee offered it to the Scots, who embraced it and soon managed to solve the problem of the poor quality of the whiskey produced. This is thanks to Andrew Yush, who remembered that this could be done by mixing several types of malt. Thus was born the famous blended whiskey, which is 90% of the whiskey produced today.

Later, whiskey entered America with the British and spread in Europe as a substitute for French cognac. And today it is all over the world!
