Lithuanians topped the list for the most alcohol exam, according to a study by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. In one year, every inhabitant of the country drank an average of 14 liters of alcohol.
Austria, Estonia, the Czech Republic and Russia reach the top five, where between 11 and 12 liters of alcohol are consumed each year.
Bulgaria is not included in the ranking, but if we participated, we would certainly be among the first with 11.4 liters of average alcohol consumption per person in our country for one year according to the World Health Organization.
Indonesia has the least alcohol consumption. A study by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development shows that among the world's major abstainers are Turks, Indians and Israelis, where one person drinks between 1 and 3 liters of alcohol a year.
The reason why they are not big fans of drunkenness in these countries is of a religious nature.
It has also been found that the lower a man's social status, the more often he abuses alcohol. In women, the exact opposite trend is observed - the more money they earn, the more likely they are to drink regularly.
Experts from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development also note that in most countries, alcohol sales have fallen. The only exceptions are Lithuania, Poland and Russia.
The study also found a trend in people who are regular drinkers. For example, in Hungary, 20% of the population drinks 90% of alcohol.
In comparison, this share in France is much smaller - 50% of the country's population drinks 90% of alcoholic beverages.
According to the World Health Service, alcohol abuse causes liver disease, reduced fertility, high blood pressure and increases the risk of various cancers and heart attacks.
