Eating fresh avocados every day can significantly alter lipid profiles and improve cholesterol levels, according to a study conducted at Stockton University, California.
According to the results published in the journal Clinical Lipidology, the provision of body fat through avocados can significantly alter lipid profiles in the human body.
Fresh avocado, as part of a balanced diet and as a substitute for solid fats, may be the solution to maintaining normal cholesterol levels. At the very least, the fat in this magical fruit does not contain any cholesterol, says the head of the study - Professor Nicki Ford.
In addition to containing naturally good fats, avocados are also a delicious way to stimulate fiber production and provide a number of vitamins and minerals needed by the body, says Ford.
The study included ten different studies on the effect of avocados. It was held in 23 countries on four continents and involved more than 2,400 people. The main goal of all studies was not only to assess the effect of avocado on cholesterol levels, but also the optimal daily amount to consume.
Using summarized data, the researchers found that consumption of avocados (1 to 1.5 per day) significantly reduced total cholesterol, bad cholesterol and triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood). No less important is that the consumption of avocados does not affect good cholesterol, the data showed.
Our study provided further evidence of the many benefits of daily consumption of fresh avocados, Ford said. The research team has already submitted the results of the study for evaluation to the National Nutrition Institute in the United States, hoping that his work will lead to a government policy to promote the consumption of avocados.
