Employees of the regional directorate of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) detected a second case of a large amount of vinegar, which is produced entirely from synthetic raw materials and chemical substances.
Experts from the BFSA Dupnitsa have blocked nearly 2 tons of apple cider vinegar, produced by the Pleven-based company Veda.
Studies of Veda Pleven apple cider vinegar have shown that what is advertised as "natural vinegar obtained by acetic acid fermentation of cider and containing substances that have a tonic effect on the body" is in fact completely synthetic.
The 2 tons of vinegar in question were found in the warehouses and outlets of a large food chain in the town of Dupnitsa.
The management of the food chain clarified that the company has a contractual relationship with the Pleven producer, which centrally charges all sites of the chain in the district.
Employees of the Regional Directorate of the BFSA made a quick inspection at the headquarters of the food chain and performed a detailed analysis of the documentation of the retail chain.
The file with the documents and a copy of the analysis will be sent to the Regional Directorate of the BFSA in Pleven, which must carry out inspections in the production and storage facilities of the company "Veda Pleven".
Veda Pleven is one of the established producers of vinegar in the country. The company sells a large part of its production in over 35 settlements on the territory of Bulgaria, incl. Kyustendil, Sofia, Dupnitsa, Blagoevgrad.
Products of the company in question can be found in almost all major food chains in Bulgaria.
It is up to the BFSA experts to determine whether the vinegar produced by the company poses a danger to the health of consumers. It remains to be seen whether the information on the labels of the vinegar offered is misleading and deliberately misleading consumers.
The labels of apple vinegar "Veda Pleven" explicitly mention that apple cider vinegar is produced from biological raw materials, according to technological requirements and according to the regulations of Bulgarian and European legislation.
A little more than a week ago, the experts from the BFSA OD ordered the immediate withdrawal of nearly 3.5 tons of wine and apple vinegar from the trade network in the country.
They warned consumers to refrain from buying apple and wine vinegar in packages of 0.7 liters, 1 liter and 3 liters, which are produced by Vinprom-Dupnitsa.
Research by the BFSA's OD in Kyustendil found that the vinegar offered by Vinprom-Dupnitsa AC was of poor quality and unfit for consumption.
