A little later, the holiday was officially opened by the Mayor of Gorna Oryahovitsa Eng. Dobromir Dobrev, who welcomed all guests and expressed his pride in the fact that the festival of Gorno Oryahovitsa sausage is gaining popularity among young people.
The delicious delicacy has been emblematic of Gorna Oryahovitsa for centuries, Monitor writes. There is information about it from five centuries ago. At first it was distributed only in limited areas, but quickly gained fame and in 1861 was even awarded at an exhibition in Turin.
Today, it continues to conquer foreign markets and to be successfully marketed not only in neighboring Greece, but also in Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. The ambitions of its producers are that in the future the native sausages will reach Asia as well.
