As much as 21 tons of unfit meat, which was intended for sale and consumption, was seized by the employees of the Fiscal Control Unit at the National Revenue Agency.
It was apparent from the documents of the importing company that the meat in question should have been used for the production of animal feed, but in practice traders were preparing to sell it to humans.
The site where the goods were stored has been monitored by NRA inspectors since November 15 - when the meat truck crossed the country through the Vidin border checkpoint.
Instead of being unloaded in Lyaskovets, as ordered in the documents, the place was transferred to another truck and headed for Pernik.
Just as they were unloading the goods, the Fiscal Control officers, with the help of their colleagues from the Interdepartmental Coordination Center for Counteracting Smuggling and Control of the Movement of Risky Goods and Cargoes of the CDCOC, prevented the spread of unfit meat in the domestic trade network.
The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has banned the site and ordered its destruction. Other foodstuffs that were unfit for consumption were found in the same site.
Since the beginning of the year, NRA employees have conducted 260,000 inspections of vehicles and imposed 1,300 collaterals.
