What kind of cutting board should we buy so that it is safe and we can use it for everything? In fact, we should not use the same board for everything - fruits, vegetables, meat. It is good to cut the meat on a separate surface.

Some time ago it was persistently claimed that wooden boards are not safe because they are porous and can easily get into microorganisms that can penetrate deep into the material. Since plastic boards are not so porous, they should be safe from this point of view, but it turns out that this is not the case.

One of the most popular studies on this subject shows that plastic boards can also cause food poisoning. Scientists infected both types of boards with bacteria, and the study found that those on wooden boards died within hours. Those who have been on plastic, however, not only do not die, but also manage to reproduce.

In other words, whatever board you have at home can cause food poisoning if not used properly and cleaned properly.

Of course, you can also choose a glass board, but it also has its drawbacks - but if we talk about the safety of the development of microorganisms, glass is the most suitable. Let's look briefly at the three types of boards, their advantages and disadvantages.

- Wooden boards - it can be said that they are universal and environmentally friendly, in addition, they are a classic. If you have chosen such a board, you need to watch for a few things - first it is mandatory that the board is made of dry hardwood. To use it properly, the first thing you need to do is pour boiling water over it and wipe the wooden product with vinegar.

This will kill any bacteria. If you use your wooden board for meat and fish, you need to clean its surface especially thoroughly. Wash with faith, then put on the board vinegar solution and leave for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water. Before storing it in a cupboard, the board must be completely dry.

There are wooden boards with transverse and longitudinal fibers - those with transverse are more durable than those with longitudinal fibers, but they are more expensive and heavier than them;

- Plastic boards - the advantage of plastic boards is mainly the price - they are cheaper and easy to maintain. The disadvantages of this type of board are several. First of all, we can't be sure what material the board is made of - there is no way to know what the quality of the plastic is. In addition, plastic boards are very easy to scratch with a knife and in a few weeks the board will look old and worn. We also know that plastic releases particles that are harmful to the body;

- Glass board - most often they are made of heat-resistant glass, which means that they can be used not only for cutting, but also for a stand for hot dishes. Their main disadvantage is that they wear out the knives very quickly when you cut on them. Another disadvantage is the slippery surface, which can be a serious challenge when cutting meat.
