Much of the "diet bread" sold in Bulgarian stores is not only non-dietary, but also harmful to health. This is clear from an inspection of the Bulgarian National Association "Active Consumers".
The conclusions were made after at the beginning of the month 12 types of randomly selected bread were examined, according to whose label the product is dietary.
However, the laboratory tests found that the analyzed Bulgarian breads have a fiber content of 1.2 per 100 grams. For comparison, after a similar test made in another EU member state - the Netherlands, the fiber content in the local bread is 5 times higher.
The most shocking scam of manufacturers is that their products contain nearly 40% fiber. In fact, the percentage of these ingredients in the tested bakery products is only 0.52.
Another striking fact is that according to some of the labels, bread is suitable for diabetics because it does not contain sugar. Experts who conducted the research point out that these breads contain more sugar even than ordinary bakery products. In addition, residues of ash and coffee grounds were found in the contents. The purpose of the "additive" is to make the product look better.
The association reminds that the appearance of bread is often confusing. Many consumers believe that dark breads are the healthiest because they contain fewer calories and more fiber.
In fact, this is not the case because the highest content is in wholemeal breads, which may be much paler in color.
Wholemeal bread is made from flour, in which the whole grain is ground without removing the outer shell. The color of the bread is dark, especially with rye bread.
