The oldest type of bread is probably pancakes. They are known in various forms around the world. They can be consumed both hot and cold; both sweet and salty.
The origin of pancakes is sought in antiquity, and data on their consumption can be found in ancient Greece and Rome.
The first clearly marked recipes for pancakes are included in cookbooks from 1439. In the baking process, they are baked on one side only at the same time. This requires them to turn to bake.
The composition of pancakes can be heterogeneous. The classic pancakes are prepared as follows:
Necessary products: 250 g flour, 0.5 liters of milk (can be replaced by half with water), 3 large or 4 small eggs, 2 pinches of salt, 1 tbsp. powdered sugar, 1 vanilla powder, 1 tbsp. oil, 20 g of melted butter.
Method of preparation: The flour is placed in a deep bowl and a well is made in it. Beat the eggs like an omelet and pour into it (or one by one). Slowly add half the milk, beating for 2-3 minutes to obtain a smooth mixture.
Add salt, oil, melted butter, powdered sugar and vanilla. Pour the second half of the milk. The mixture is covered and left for half an hour at room temperature. Fry the pancakes on low heat and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
In addition to the universal recipe, there are many recipes with additives in the mixture such as tomatoes, bacon or even raisins.
Each nation has its own way and history of making pancakes. In the United States, for example, pancakes are a food eaten primarily for breakfast, while in the Netherlands they are a food for dinner.
In England, there is even a celebration of pancakes (Pancake Day), and the traditional recipe for pancakes includes beer in its ingredients. There is a German recipe for pancakes with beaten eggs, which are baked very thin and served with jam or jelly.
The Russian version of the pancakes is called pancakes. They are usually prepared with buckwheat and are thin, crunchy, served with caviar and cream or folded with a filling of cream cheese or jam.
The French pancake is served with hot cognac. In Mexico, there is a pancake - cornbread, which is often served with beans or meat, garnished with tomato sauce.
