The names of the different diets sound confusing. It sounds even more confusing for someone to tell you that they eat plant-based foods, but they also eat meat. Or that he is a vegetarian but eats fish. Or that he is vegan, but you know he eats eggs or cheese.

Over the years, all of these regimes have become particularly popular because the issue of animal welfare has been raised.

But do you know the difference between all the popular diets - what is veganism, what is vegetarianism, what is plant-based nutrition and what is pesketarianism? You are probably already confused.

Let's start with pesquetarianism. It is considered to be one of the healthiest ways to eat. In practice, it is a Mediterranean diet - fruits and vegetables are consumed, meat is not eaten, but fish is eaten.

The benefits of this diet - you manage to cover your needs for vitamin B, omega-3 fatty acids and protein. This diet also helps fight cholesterol, high blood pressure, protects against heart problems.

Vegetarianism you probably know what it is. If you still missed its sensation - it excludes all types of meat, including fish. Vegetarianism itself has several divisions - ovovegetarianism, in which eggs are eaten but not dairy products; lacto-vegetarianism, in which dairy products are eaten but not eggs.

In its classic form, however, both dairy products and eggs are allowed in vegetarianism. This is a relatively sensible diet, because thanks to them you get protein, vitamins and fatty acids.

Plant-based nutrition is a little more complicated. In practice, nothing is forbidden with him. Meat, eggs and dairy products are avoided. The emphasis is on the lack of heat treatment or minimal heat treatment.

The most restrictive is veganism. It excludes all animal products - fish, meat, dairy and eggs. This means that those who follow this diet eat fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes and cereals.

In some cases, veganism reaches its extreme forms - for example, the consumption of honey is prohibited because it is produced by bees.
