New batch of 250,000 eggsinfected with the preparation fipronil, were found in a Plovdiv warehouse during an inspection by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency.

The dangerous batches are numbered 3BG04001, 1BG04001 and 3BG04003, produced by Consortium Agribusiness and Agroinvestproduct. Some of them are already on the market.

Eggs with established fipronil have been banned and a procedure for their seizure has already been launched, the Food Agency announced.

The unfit goods will be destroyed, and the BFSA adds that the eggs cannot be redirected for rendering, as they contain a chemical product.

If you bought eggs, inspect the package for the batch number and if they are infected, return them to the store. Experts remind that even if you have eaten an egg, there is no need to fear for your health, because the amount of fipronil is insignificant.

The fipronil scandal erupted in late July after it became clear that Belgian eggs had been infected with the dangerous insecticide. In the course of the investigation, it became clear that the eggs had slipped from a Dutch poultry farm that used illegal deworming against intestinal mites.

On 20 July, Belgium informed the European Commission and the other Member States of the danger.

Fipronil is an insecticide used against fleas, worms and ticks, and its use in food-producing animals is prohibited because it is toxic to humans. In large quantities it can damage the activity of the kidneys, liver and thyroid gland.
