To date, 1.5 million eggs have been infected with fipronil. Every day, the hens add another 150,000 eggs, which will be destroyed.
Rumen Porojanov, the Minister of Agriculture and Food, said that the quantities of unfit goods are growing, because every day the hens treated with the banned preparation add 100-120 thousand new eggs.
Today, the poultry farm has 17 five-liter tubes of fipronol. This treatment contains 2% active substance fipronil. According to the staff, the lawns on the farm were treated with it, and two of the companies look after the hens freely, not caged.
The eggs suspended from sale were intended mainly for the Bulgarian market. Only some of them - about 7,000 - were for export to Cyprus.
As in many other countries, in our country fipronil is prohibited for the treatment of productive animals. However, it can be used to deworm, for example, domestic animals such as pigeons.
Unlike in Bulgaria, in Belgium and the Netherlands the substance is used for strengthening other preparations. This led to the closure of hundreds of farms until the original source was identified.
Eggs infected with fipronil, are dangerous for the body when a person about 70 kg consumes 70-80 eggs for a short period of about a week. The substance is not among those tested in the required laboratory tests and examinations, as it is banned.
All laying hens over 35 weeks of age are to be destroyed along with all eggs. The warehouses will be open after a full guarantee for the cleanliness of the farm.
