The illegal use of horse meat in some products was widely covered by all media and was in the public interest for almost a month. In the end, it turned out that horse meat did not pose a threat to the health of citizens.

It is even considered a delicacy in some countries, incl. Bulgaria. It was not the fault of the manufacturers that they did not mark it on the label and thus misled consumers.

And while the eyes of institutions and society remain fixed on meat producers, no one exercises effective control over the quality of products offered in food chains.

As the director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA), Yordan Voynov, was forced to admit, the BFSA does not have the authority to monitor the quality of the offered products, but only whether they are fresh and whether they meet the conditions for storage and sale.

Recently, the environmental organization Greenpeace published a "black list" of food producers who poison us with genetically modified organisms. This "black list" includes producers who use GMOs to flavor, color or refresh products.

This list can be supplemented by a number of other European producers that have been found to offer lower quality ingredients in the new Member States and throughout Eastern Europe.

Inspections by the competent European authorities revealed in similar commercial practices Coca-Cola Co., as well as products of other manufacturers, e.g. Jacobs coffee, Kotanyi spices.

The fact that the media in the poorer EU member states, including the Bulgarian media, do not publish information about GMOs or unfair commercial practices can only be explained by economic dependence. Top 20 Companies That Offer Products With GMOs, almost completely coincides with the list of the biggest advertisers in the Bulgarian media.

At the other pole is Bolivia, which has become the first McDonald's-free country in Latin America and the second after Cuba in the world. After almost 14 years of presence, numerous campaigns and promotions, the international giant was forced to withdraw its business from the Latin American country. On December 21, 2012, McDonald's sold its last Big Mac in Bolivia.
