Sofia will join the campaign against food waste, which was launched in London by Mayor Sadiq Khan. The beginning of the initiative in our country was given by Yordanka Fandakova, who treated the guests of the event with discarded food.
On the same day, the mayor of Sofia celebrated his birthday and since the start of the fight against tons of food waste in Bulgaria was announced, Fandakova decided to celebrate her holiday at the recycling plant near Sofia.
The non-standard idea demonstrated that instead of being thrown away, products with a bad commercial appearance could be used to prepare fine dishes.
And instead of bouquets, the mayor of Sofia asked his guests to bring saplings, which were planted around the plant.
My personal holiday was just an occasion to start this important project, which was started by London. Sofia will also be one of the European cities calling for responsibility for food, Fandakova was quoted as saying by Nova TV.
The international initiative appeals to households around the world. If you want the world to deal with poverty and malnutrition, do not buy food that you will not eat and throw away.
Last year, the amount of discarded products edible in Bulgaria was about 300,000 tons. At the same time, every third child and every second adult in Bulgaria has no money for bread.
