Recently, it is becoming more common for people to switch to a diet - emphasis on meat, emphasis on carbohydrates, balanced diet, etc. More and more people care about their health. Whether out of thought for their health or out of the environment, vegetarianism and veganism as a way of life are also very common, especially among young people.

Here we will not discuss the benefits and negatives of your diet, nor will we discuss whether or not we should follow a certain diet or diet. We will simply explain how deprivation of meat affects our mental capacity and hence intellect us.

Scientists are divided on the issue. This is because there is still no study with control groups to confirm or reject the idea of the connection between our intellect and eating meat.

One of the main ones that is sometimes raised is the presence of creatinine in our brain. Some researchers say there is a link between creatinine levels and people's intelligence based on research conducted at the University of Sydney.

During the study, two groups of people received creatinine and placebo, respectively. The creatinine group showed far higher results than the other. According to others, however, it is an essential amino acid that the human body can only synthesize from other amino acids, ie. it doesn't matter.

In the 1990s, a study was published observing people who have been vegetarians or vegans all their lives. The results show that they actually reduce the risk of developing dementia. Naturally, this is done with the proviso that it may not be due so much to the intake of meat as to the increased intake of fruits and vegetables.

At the same time, however, the BBC published an article with the results of a study in Kenya, according to which the 555 students tested to improve their cognitive abilities showed high results after eating meat. More in-depth research is needed to establish the veracity of this study.

The BBC's results and arguments have been endorsed or refuted by various people and researchers. One of the opinions is that in fact the diet based on fruits and vegetables is much more diverse and provides the body with a large amount of nutrients, fiber and more.

One of the main arguments against the study in Kenya is that the children on whom it was performed are malnourished anyway. Providing them with enough nutritious food for a period of time leads to an increase in energy levels in the body, and hence the cognitive functions of these children. Who can think while hungry?

The positive aspects of vegetarianism and veganism are many and have been listed more than once. For example, the gastric flora improves at times when you switch to a similar regimen. This is because the bacteria that form in the gut are different and help to reduce bloating as well as increase the rate of metabolism.

At the same time, however, the lack of some vitamins, which simply cannot be obtained only from fruits and vegetables, can reduce energy levels in your body, and hence affect cognitive activity.

Vegans may also experience a reduced amount of calcium due to the exclusion of dairy products from the diet.

In general, there are not very accurate results on the influence of meat on the human intellect. What needs to be remembered, however, is to maintain a well-balanced vegetarian or vegan diet with the necessary intake of vitamins and minerals that cannot be obtained through food. This will provide you with the necessary substances for a healthy and energetic life.
