In the Rhodope villages the Smilyan beans are cooked with a little spice and a few ingredients. This is because the beans themselves are so fragrant and delicious that they do not require special flavoring. The recipe is usually lean. Often used on Christmas Eve. Here it is:

Necessary products: 1 tsp large Smilyan beans, 1 onion, mint, oil, salt, tomato / tomato puree if desired.
