What in Bulgaria we distribute for health? Probably the first thing that would come to mind are our typical martenitsas, which we exchange on March 1. It is also a long-standing custom to tie a red thread to the newborn for health and against lessons, as it is customary for health to give geranium as a gift.
Here, however, we will talk only about food that is distributed for health. And who is she? Definitely a sacrifice!
Since when does this tradition date, what are the folk customs and how the sacrifice itself is prepared? It is to these issues that we will pay more serious attention here.
Eid al-Adha is a very ancient and definitely pagan custom that has become so ingrained in our history that even many of our priests in Orthodox monasteries, churches and chapels distribute a sacrifice for health.
This usually happens on the feast of the temple itself, but also for health in many settlements a sacrifice is distributed on the day of St. Ivan Rilski, and especially for the children on the day of the Little Mother of God. The shepherds in the villages make and distribute a sacrifice on St. George's Day, and the fishermen on St. Nicholas' Day.

Many people who have been diagnosed with incurable diseases but have been cured also make a sacrifice. Victims of accidents (such as road accidents), who miraculously survived, also make a sacrifice. Then their closest people gather and the sacrifice is for the health of the "returnees" from that world.
Himself sacrifice is a kind of feast, which is practiced differently in different parts of Bulgaria.
It is usually distributed in temples soup, which is for the health of all people who go to eat, not only to satisfy their hunger, but also for health.
There are different beliefs about how the sacrifice itself is prepared. According to some people, whatever animal is prepared for a feast should be only male and killed on the day of the sacrifice itself. This is where the idea of sacrifice comes from, which is entirely pagan.

However, it is customary for the soup distributed in the temples not to be prepared by birds, because they are animals digging in the ground, as well as not by the so-called dirty animals, such as pigs, donkeys, and even horses. The most common sacrificial soups are lamb, sheep, goat, etc..
In richer homes, the term sacrifice can be understood as the roasting of a whole animal, as well as the habituation of all acquaintances to treat for human healthwho invited them. Such meals are associated with a lot of fun, dancing, feasting and a lot of brandy or ruinous red wine.
In some parts of the country, the foods that are distributed for health include ritual cakes, small sweets, Turkish delight and others.
