Many people often overdo the amount of food in their shopping bag when shopping and then wonder how to store it so that they don't have to throw it away.
Here the freezer comes to the rescue, which if it is not overcrowded, will be able to hold a few more products to be stored for further use.
And this is where the question arises as to what would happen if you overdo the amount of potatoes already bought or cooked. Whether they can be frozen raw or cooked and how to do it. Here's what it's important to know in this regard:
1. It is not recommended to freeze already cooked potatoes, because they will easily peel when you heat them later. An exception can be made only for boiled potatoes, but it is good to use them only for mashed potatoes.
2. You can safely freeze potatoes that you have previously blanched. For many, they are even tastier than fresh potatoes and are preferred when we want to fry them.
3. Blanching the potatoes should not take more than 5 minutes. They should be placed whole or in parts in boiling salted water, and per 1 kg of potatoes should not be less than 1 liter of water.
4. If you want to freeze boiled potatoes in order to use them later to make a puree, it is good to peel them and cut them into equal parts and so put them in boiling water. Once they are ready and have cooled and drained, you can put them in plastic bags, removing the air from the package before closing them.
5. Regardless of the purpose for which you blanch the potatoes, after the required blanching time has elapsed, it is obligatory to pour ice water over the vegetables. If necessary, you can even repeat the action.
6. When freezing potatoes, the finished sachets should only be filled with completely cooled products. It is good to then write not only what they contain, but also their approximate amount.
7. Frozen boiled potatoes can be used not only for puree but also for cream soups. They are also suitable for any other more mushy dishes, where the potatoes do not need to be harder.
