The rose hip is also called the "wild rose". The ancient Greeks associated her with the goddess of beauty, who, as soon as she learned of the death of her beloved Adonis, rushed to him through the thick rose bushes.

Her grief was so great that she did not notice the prickly thorns tearing at her delicate skin. Every drop of blood that fell on the green twigs turned into a red rose. The goddess turned the beautiful teenager into an anemone. And since then, when the anemones bloom in the forest, the needles of the rose hip are hidden by lovely pink flowers.

The Bulgarian has long valued rose hips as a universal medicine and food source. "Wild rose" is widely used in folk medicine as a source of vitamins that increase the body's defenses. These fruits have no analogue in the plant world in the content of vitamin C. 100 g contains about 2 g of it.

The content of mineral salts is also high - potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium and others. A unique natural complex of natural vitamin A, as well as essential fatty acids (Omega-3 and Omega-6), in combination with powerful antioxidants, can also be found in the fruit. They make the skin healthy, supple and young, significantly eliminating the symptoms of its aging.

In our country, rose hips can be found almost everywhere. Also, due to the many qualities of rose hips, its cultivated version is already grown in backyard gardens. This fruit is unpretentious and grows everywhere.

But it should be known that the fruits of the same shrub, irradiated unevenly by the sun, differ in the content of vitamin C. Those with an elongated shape and colored in dark brown are also richer in vitamins.

Harvesting of rose hips is best done a few days before mass ripening. The fruit should be orange-red and firm. The immature, as well as the overripe, do not have the necessary qualities. The period begins in September and lasts until the frosts.

Drying follows. The picked rose hips are stored for up to 24 hours at a temperature of up to 10 degrees. When drying at home, natural drying is mostly practiced:

The fruits are inspected and cleaned of the damaged ones, as well as of any leaves and twigs. Cut in half and clean the seeds. They are spread in a layer 5-6 cm thick and placed in dry, ventilated rooms. Stir occasionally. In a few days they are ready. Can be stored in envelopes or boxes, in rooms with medium temperature.

If you decide to dry the rose hips thermally, it is best to do it in the oven. In this way, vitamins are also preserved. The temperature should not be higher 40-50 degrees and rise continuously but slightly. The door opens frequently and the fruits are stirred.

Well dried under pressure break. After drying, any impurities are inspected again and the seeds are removed, as in natural drying. They are stored in well-closed glass jars because they are very hygroscopic.

The content of vitamin C during drying of rose hips remains almost the same as in fresh fruit. Already dried, rose hips are used for tea, drinks, powdered, for infusions.
