It is no coincidence that bakers celebrate on Ascension of the Lord. For Bulgarians, bread is sacred and irreplaceable, and the word bread in many cases means eating, feeding. Bread embodies the ideas of natural processes - birth, death and resurrection - a new beginning.
Bread is a part not only of the daily, but also of the festive table, as for every folk custom and every truly important event a loaf is kneaded. Bread is kneaded on all major church holidays - Christmas Eve, Christmas, St. George's Day, Trifon Zarezan, St. Todor's Day, Babinden and of course - Spasovden.
According to the New Testament, 40 days after his resurrection, Christ remained on earth to preach his doctrine and converse with the apostles. The holiday is called Savior's Day, because it is with the ascension of Christ that the act of human salvation ends.
On the fortieth day of the Resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples for the last time, leading them out of the city into the Mount of Olives, two kilometers from Jerusalem.
Blessing them, Jesus separated from the earth and rose from the cloud, slowly ascending to heaven. The apostles bowed and could not take their eyes off the incredible sight.
According to Bulgarian traditional beliefs, on the 40th day of Easter, fairies come and pick and decorate with the dew that blossomed during the night.
It is believed that dew and childless people are treated with dew. If it rains today, the year will be rich and the harvest abundant.
