The last extra that the American innovative company Uber offered to Bulgarian consumers was the delivery of ice cream at home. The service was planned as a temporary campaign and ran in the summer months of 2015. Unfortunately, it has become the last service offered by the technology company on the Bulgarian market.
#UberIceCream was an active promotion only in Sofia, which made the capital part of a global campaign in hundreds of cities around the world. The price of #UberIceCream was 5 leva, and in one portion there are 3 boxes of 125 ml ice cream. Up to two servings could be ordered on call.
Shortly after its completion, however, the Bulgarian Consumer Protection Commission fined Uber two hundred thousand levs because the experts working there judged that the company was unfairly competing with the binding of passengers.
For those who don't know, Uber is a technology company based in San Francisco, California, that has created a mobile application for shared travel of the same name, which works in many cities in several countries.
The app of the company with the same name helps to make requests for transportation and sends the information to the drivers hired by it. Thus, the passengers who had decided to use the service had the opportunity to reserve a car at a specific place and at a specific time.
The business venture proved successful and in early 2015 the American company grew in 53 countries and more than 200 cities around the world, including Sofia. The Uber service is valued at more than $ 40 billion.
However, in the middle of last year, the problems for Uber in Bulgaria began. Several protests by taxi drivers and complaints to various institutions led to the CPC's fine. At the end of September last year, the Supreme Administrative Court ruled that the service offered was illegal and thus effectively terminated the company's operations in Bulgaria.
Uber's activities are not subject to legal prosecution only in our country. Its services are banned in some states of India. Lawsuits against her are pending in Britain and Spain, and taxi drivers have protested against her in Germany, India, Thailand, Spain, France and England.
