To improve the way you eat, make an action plan and imagine its implementation. This will help you achieve your goals, according to a new study.

People who plan to eat fruit and visualize the effect of eating are in much better shape and eat healthier much more often, scientists say. Just pretending to eat makes you actually eat twice as much fruit as usual.

If you make a "tight" plan for what to include in your daily menu, you will certainly achieve your intentions more easily than anyone else seeking to lose weight. These conclusions were reached by psychology professor Barbel Knupper.

"Simply telling people to change their diet no longer works," Knupper said in a statement. "These visualization techniques are borrowed from the ways of motivation in sports. Athletes, for example, have a lot of mental training, during which they imagine how they achieve certain results. It turns out that in practice these actions are very successful," added the professor.

Therefore, the researchers thought that the mental representation of actions related to the purchase and consumption of certain foods would also have the same effect.

The theses were proved by the following experiment. The researchers divided 177 students at McGill University in the United States into two groups, the first consisting of people who often ate fruit and the second of students who were not big fans of healthy eating.

The group of students who did not consume fruit was asked to make a plan for a daily menu in which fruit must be present. They were then asked to imagine how they carried out their plan.

So in the end it turned out that the second group in a week far surpassed the first (fruit lovers) in the amount of fruit eaten. In addition, students who became accustomed to a healthy lifestyle felt in much better shape.
