A special free mobile application is being developed, which will help Bulgarians recognize counterfeit products and be at ease with the food they put on their table.
The idea for the introduction of the new application belongs to the Chamber of Commerce and its main purpose is to protect domestic consumers.
The new product will read the barcode of the goods and through it customers will recognize whether the food is quality or not.
With the introduction of the new mobile application, data such as quality, shelf life, quantity and presence of allergens will be relied upon.
Of the Bulgarian hypermarkets, only one has the practice of checking the barcodes of the goods it offers.
Thanks to the application, people can not only be informed, but will also be able to claim their rights, because through it it will be possible to send an instant signal for counterfeit goods.
At the moment, the placement of a fake barcode is not sanctioned by law, which is why it is demanded for a change in the legal framework and protection from such actions.
Meanwhile, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets calculated that last year the wholesale price index fell by 6.2%.
However, this index is not the same in different cities for basic foodstuffs, with prices being higher in smaller cities.
Products such as sugar, flour, rice, ripe beans, sunflower oil, eggs, frozen chicken, minced meat, cow's cheese and Vitosha cheese are the cheapest in the capital.
A Sofia resident pays an average of BGN 27.9 for them.
For comparison, the same products in Lovech cost about BGN 40.8 or 50% more than in Sofia.
Even the main food products in the capital have fallen in price by 8.7% over the last year.
The largest decline in prices was observed in Shumen, where the main food products fell by 11.2% and cost an average of BGN 33.3.
The city that reports the highest prices for the past year is Blagoevgrad, where prices have jumped by 19.3% and basic food products are around BGN 38.64.
