Bulgaria ranks 5th in the jump in prices for the last two decades in the European Union. The values of food products and services in our country have risen by a little over 80 percent.
Eurostat data show that between 2000 and 2017 the prices of goods and services in Bulgaria rose by 84.6%.
The most serious increase was reported in Romania, where goods and services rose by 257%. Romania is followed by Iceland, Hungary and Latvia.
In Bulgaria for the last two decades the prices of cigarettes and alcohol have risen the most. These goods have raised their prices by nearly 400% in the period 2000-2017. According to this indicator, our country is ahead only of Romania, where the values of cigarettes and alcohol have jumped by 700%.
In terms of food products in Bulgaria, the prices of soft drinks have become the highest. The values of carbonated drinks in our country have increased by 87%.
In general, in the last 2 decades, Bulgarians have paid more for food, with dairy products, eggs and meat making the most serious leaps.
