The iconic Oktoberfest beer festival has started in the capital of the German state of Bavaria. From September 16, Munich will become an arena for many entertainments, while beer will be poured every meter and fragrant crumbs will chirp.
This year the event will be organized for the 183rd time, as it has been canceled several times over the years for various reasons. The cult holiday Oktoberfest boasts a rich long history. It was first held in 1810, during which time it lasted only a few days in October.
The event was then dedicated to the wedding of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Theresa von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. Despite the name of the holiday in our time, the beginning of the festival is set in September, because in October the colder weather does not allow guests to have fun as they would like.
For years, Oktoberfest has been gathering piles of beer lovers from all over the world in the center of Bavaria. In fact, statistics show that each edition of the festival brings together at least six million people who drink a record amount of cold beer together.
On the occasion of the holiday, popular local breweries set up beer tents in Munich, where they offer the best of their production. Except with an incredible variety of beers Oktoberfest can be remembered by tourists even with the curious costumes that locals wear during the holiday, as well as with the delicious authentic dishes offered to visitors.
In case you attend the fun event, you will be able to try Bavarian roast chicken, sausages, roast pork, sauerkraut, pretzels, known as bretzels and many other traditional culinary temptations.
The good thing about Oktoberfest is that it also offers quality drinks for abstainers. Fans of soft drinks will be able to drink carbonated drinks in beer mugs.
As you may have guessed, this year's edition is coming under increased control. Authorities hope to ensure order in Munich so that no accidents occur.
