This year, most of our compatriots prefer to buy winter vegetables from retail chains, rather than produce it themselves. Last year, almost half of the cans of our factories were sold in the country.
The data for 2014 show that 23.1% of Bulgarian canned food has been sold on European markets. Exports to third world countries were 8%, and nearly 1/4 of processed vegetable products remained in stock.
Last year, Bulgarians bought 23.7% compotes and jam from factories, Monitor writes. However, a large amount of fruit production is in stock at the end of last year - 35.3%, according to data collected by the Ministry of Agriculture.
In 2014, the factories in Bulgaria processed 77.6 tons of fruits and 95.8 tons of vegetables from 196 companies. Of the fruits, cherries are the most processed, followed by apples, peaches and plums.
Until recently, the leader in processed fruits were apples, followed by cherries and peaches.
The most processed vegetable for another year is the tomato, which holds a share of 43%. It is followed by peppers with a share of 16% and eggplant - with 6%. In recent years, tomatoes have only lost their first place once - in 2008, when they were overtaken by peppers in the number of cans.
196 companies operated last year, most of them commercial companies, but this activity has also hired sole traders and individuals, and there are two cooperatives.
Most of the canneries in our country have their own gardens and only grow the fruits and vegetables they use for winter.
134 of the factories process vegetables, and the number of canned food production increases with each passing year.
The Bulgarian production market is strongly dominated by Bulgarian production, accounting for 82.6%. The rest are supplies from the European Union and third countries.
