According to an old folk custom, during the summer most of the Bulgarians prepare winter. Those of our people who have managed to produce their own fruits and vegetables use home-made products for canned food, but the rest have to buy raw materials.
This year, however, the preparation of winter food will be more expensive than last year, according to a check of the prices of vegetables on the stock exchanges, prepared by VsekidenKom.
The report shows that the prices of cucumbers and tomatoes from greenhouses continue to rise, despite the fact that both vegetables are seasonal. There is a decrease in the value of garden tomatoes, from which, however, winter food can not be made.
At the moment, a kilo of tomatoes on the stock market is sold for about eighty cents. On the other hand, at that time in 2014, a kilo of red vegetables cost about 55 stotinki.
Even if the price of tomatoes falls in the next few weeks, when the jars will be closed the hardest, the reduction will not be more than 5-6 cents, the industry explains.
Experts explain that the main reason for the increase in prices is that due to torrential rains and unfavorable weather conditions, this year's production enters the markets relatively later.
In addition, the quality has deteriorated and the surviving quantity is by no means abundant.
The reference also shows that the price of peppers continues to change.
After some reduction in the value of this vegetable, now the price is starting to rise again. A kilo of peppers costs BGN 1.05, and it is assumed that it will continue to rise.
Cabbage and carrots have also been offered at high prices in recent weeks. It turns out that at the same time last year they were cheaper. At this point, a kilo of cabbage costs 0.32 leva, a kilo of carrots costs 0.82 leva.
According to experts, tasty and quality vegetables for the winter can be purchased until the end of this month, because then the market will be taken over by imported vegetables.
You have to be very careful with them, as they are often full of pesticides.
