The Food Act provides for a new amendment, which provides for two to eight times higher sanctions for unfair food producers, said the Minister of Agriculture and Food Desislava Taneva.
The old fines will be increased in order to increase consumer confidence in domestic products offered in the trade network, the minister was quoted as saying by BTA.
The new proposal for the Food Act is now available on the Internet, and according to Taneva, it provides an example of legislation that both producers and consumers will be happy with.
To prevent anyone from selling food without being responsible for its quality, the new law requires registration and imposes a hefty fine on its absence.
This requirement is introduced so that traders do not mislead us that New Zealand meat is fresh and not deep-frozen, as is the practice so far, the official statement said.
It took about a year to update the law, but the new amendments will be in line with European legislation, as norms are being introduced that were not regulated until recently.
Changes are also envisaged in the online trade of food, as well as food supplements. Meat traders can often be found on the Internet, for whom control is weaker than traders who offer their products in stores.
New rules will be introduced for the display of non-meat on the stands in the retail chains. The sites will be obliged to place the fresh meat separately from the frozen and processed products.
The proposal will be discussed by the National Food Council, which will be attended by all industry organizations. Food safety will then be discussed.
The transport requirements for the transportation of foodstuffs will also be discussed.
