Everyone knows that food is tastier when shared with good company. In many families, lunches or dinners in which all members of the household gather or invite relatives are traditional. But in the hectic daily life of modern man, these customs are gradually being forgotten.
A new study of lifestyle and diet shows that more and more people are eating on their own. The study involved 5,000 Britons, and the results show that modern people not only eat without company, but even miss some of the main meals during the day.
Without relatives and friends, every fourth respondent has lunch or dinner. Most often, young people between the ages of 18 and 24 miss basic meals. But they are not the only ones deprived of breakfast, lunch or dinner. 89 percent of those surveyed regularly skipped a main meal, and 88 percent ate quickly between appointments during the day. One in three Britons misses breakfast, one in five misses lunch, and 14 per cent of respondents go to bed without dinner.
A quarter of the participants in the study ate more often alone than with company. When asked how often they invite friends to dinner or lunch, nearly 80 percent of Britons answer infrequently or never. More and more people are having lunch on foot or in front of the computer at work.
In this new study of eating habits, it is impressive not only that people are increasingly eating without company, but also that the quality of food is also deteriorating. Worrying data is that 77 percent of respondents do not eat the recommended five fruits or vegetables for the day, and 10 percent of participants do not eat fruits and vegetables at all.
A similar trend is observed in our country. Whereas years ago visiting was commonplace, today people are increasingly eating on their own. Among young people, this is most pronounced because they spend more and more time in front of computers or with their phones in their hands and even while eating they are staring at the screens.
