Jacques Pepin, whose name every self-respecting chef knows, has already reached his 80th birthday, but he continues to inspire us with his culinary show and the exquisite recipes he offers us.

He was born and spent his youth in France, where he became passionate about cooking as a child and was a favorite of everyone at the restaurant owned by his parents. It was only at the age of 13 that he began an internship at a famous hotel, and much later he was the personal chef of countless celebrities, including Charles de Gaulle himself.

His current home is the United States for over 50 years. He also quickly became popular there, especially after refusing to be hired as John F. Kennedy's personal chef.

Jacques Pepin's motto is that cooking should be a pleasure, not just a goal and a way of eating. This is clear from his latest book "Every day with Jacques Pepin", which is also available in Bulgarian.

And after we briefly introduced you to the skills of this culinary fakir, we decided to offer you one of his extremely easy recipes, not for eating, but for drinking. These are the cherries in the islands:

Necessary products: 500 g healthy and hard cherries, 1/2 tsp corn (glucose) syrup, 1 1/2 tsp vodka.

Method of preparation: Trim the stems of the cherries, leaving about 1 cm of them. Otherwise, the alcohol that you add later will penetrate the fruit very quickly and they will soften.

And the idea of this fruit elixir is that the cherries retain their texture as much as possible and remain crispy. Wash them under running water and make sure there are no rotten parts somewhere that you will need to remove.

In a suitable bowl, mix the vodka and syrup. Pour the drained cherries into a glass jar and pour the alcohol mixture so that it covers them. Seal the jar with a lid and let it age for about 40 days in a cool, dark place. Do not think of him if only 1 month has passed.

This is a prerequisite for your efforts not to be in vain. When the time comes, take out your most beautiful brandy glasses and pour in a few cherries along with the liquid.

You will be able to enjoy the drink prepared by you with about 12 drinks. That's how much they go out of the prepared dose. And the good news is that you can keep cherries firm and crunchy for more than 2 years.
