Due to deviations from the Bulgarian state standard, the Commission for Protection of Competition will study 5 dairies in Bulgaria. They sell their products according to the standards for Bulgarian yogurt, but there are deviations in the packaging.
The inspectors are targeting OMK, Dimitar Madjarov-2, Polydei-2, Komlektstroy and LB Bulgaricum, it is clear from a statement of the Commission.
The signal was submitted by the Confederation for Protection against Discrimination. They claim that after an inspection by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency that the producers distribute it on the market with the label Bulgarian yoghurt, which means that it is produced according to the Bulgarian state standard, but nevertheless their packaging is not made of material approved by the directive..
According to the National Sales Standard of yoghurt the packaging must be made of polystyrene and not polypropylene packaging, as inspectors found in early June.
The whole case can be described as a simple commercial dispute, but whether this is the case will become clear after the decision of the CPC, which will be announced by December 15.
Already in the spring, the three manufacturers wanted to use polystyrene approved in the European Union, because it has been proven that it does not affect the quality of the products.
However, the complaint to the CPC states that the producers mislead the consumers because they sell the yoghurt at prices according to the Bulgarian state standard and do not comply with all the conditions.
