Another product, distributed on the Bulgarian market, contains content of horse meat. One of the samples sent earlier this month for testing in a German laboratory showed a positive result for unregulated horse meat content.
Inspectors from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) report a meat product sazdarma, in which 5% content of horse meatwhich are not marked on the label.
The experts from the respective regional directorate of the BFSA carry out an on-site inspection of the manufacturer of the sazdarma. Measures have been taken to withdraw the entire available batch from the commercial network in a timely manner. In case of need, the BFSA employees are ready to examine each of the ingredients of the products used.
Following a notification received at the end of February, through the Food and Feed Reporting System (RASFF), the Bulgarian state, represented by the BFSA, undertook in March to send 100 samples from various DNA analysis products to various European laboratories.
The results of the first 25 samples sent were obtained in the middle of last week. The data of the German laboratory that conducted the study showed that in four meat products widely distributed on the Bulgarian market, horse meat was found instead of beef.
Meat products and sausages of the companies Boni AD, Karlovo and Mes-Co EOOD, Petrich were withdrawn from the trade network. It is expected that the fines that will be imposed on the two meat processing enterprises will amount to BGN 10,000, the maximum provided by law.
The results of the second group of 25 samples, which were tested in independent European laboratories, showed only one positive for the presence of horse DNA samples. The results of the third 25 samples sent will become clear early next week.
The intensified control by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency continues. Another information notification will be prepared through the RASFF system to the other member states of the European Union.
